Vigoro product review: Here's what happened to our lawn. It's so hard to believe that June is almost over. This month has been a challenging month for us when it comes to lawn and gardening. The drought that we experienced this month was devastating to our lawn.

The last good rain that we had was on June 3rd.

Here's what happened to our lawn

After the rainfall on June 3rd, we noticed a crazy looking weed sprouting up in the middle of our lawn. Over the next few days the weed started spreading rapidly.

It resembles crabgrass, but it also looks like a thick blade of tall fescue. And compared to the other fine grass blades in our yard this weed of a grass looks absolutely horrible.

We have been seeding with Vigoro Contractors mix grass seed for the past two seasons and this is the first time we have noticed this type of grass sprouting up.

I did some research online and found that the blend of grass seed depends on availability. That means that no matter what grass seed is indicated on the bag it still can vary.

Vigoro's contractors mix indicates that it contains high-performance blend of intermediate & annual ryegrass, creeping red fescue, Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass.

After looking online it appears that what's taking over our yard is a type of thick bladed tall fescue or ryegrass. We personally do not like the look compared to the rest of the grass that established after two seasons of using the contractors mix.

It's much thicker than the rest of our grass blend and grows way faster, which does not look pleasant.

Needless to say, we will not be repurchasing this brand and mix of grass seed in the future.

We initially assumed it to be a weed so, we went out and purchased 1 bag of Vigoro weed and feed to treat.

After we applied weed and feed we noticed over the next few days that all of our grass completely died where applied.

And even better the suspected weed that we targeted was not effected at all. It was at that point that we realized that it's not a weed after all. It continued to sprout at a rapid pace and spread from the center of the yard outward.

Vigoro weed and feed did not perform as advertised. It did not kill 200 types of weeds to the root as advertised. There are still several weeds very visible in our grass.

It did more damage by completely drying out and killing our established good grass.

We were looking forward to the grass greening within 72 hours and was so disappointed when it destroyed our lawn.

This was a real set back to our lawn.

We contacted Home Depot for a resolution

Left with a damaged lawn we reached out to Home Depot Customer Care and spoke to a Resolution Expediter for Home Depot's Proprietary Brands. And Karla, was so helpful in listening to my concerns and the feedback I had to provide regarding the two Vigoro products and results after use on our lawn.

As a resolution Karla offered me a full refund for these two Vigoro products, honoring the money back guarantee manufacturers warranty.

Karla sent us an email with a copy of our receipt and case number and instructed me to go to our local store for refund.

The Customer Service Representative at our local store was great and didn't give us a hard time at all.

We are so thankful that Home Depot was able to refund us for our purchase. This allowed us to repurchase a new brand and type of grass seed.

With every set back we take it as a challenge. We transformed our yard before and we are sure we can do it again.

We will not be using weed and feed in the future or Vigoro's contractors mix. Based on the full sun that our front yard gets daily, we decided to over seed with Pennington Kentucky 31 Tall Fescue.
